As more architects, designers, and real estate professionals become aware of the power of 3D architectural visualization, demand of these services raises. Join AIMIR to find answers to Frequently Asked Questions about 3D rendering, 3D animation, and virtual reality.
What is 3D Architectural Visualization?
In case some of you may not be familiar with, let’s start with the definition. Actually, architectural visualization is no new concept. However, in the past decades, 3D technology has developed fast so that 3D came true.
At this moment, 3D architectural visualization has various forms such as 3D rendering, 3D animation, virtual reality, and argument reality. It is widely used by architects, designers, real estate developers, and manufacturers. With the help of 3D architectural visualization, you can have true-to-life 3D works of your vision, inside and out.
Why do You Need 3D Architectural Visualization Services?
3D architectural visualization, seemingly trivial, actually plays an important role in architectural design. Besides the most commonly-aware purpose: for marketing as most people know, there are other benefits.
Previewing the project before it starts: You can have a thorough look of the design in photorealistic 3D works. In this way, it is way easier to change the design details when needed.
Invoking creativity: Honestly, it is not a rare thing to get inspiration during the production of creating the 3D works. The flexibility and easy-to-change nature make it a piece of cake to reform your design in 3D works.
Presentation and reporting: When you need someone to say yes on your vision, the 3D architectural visualization must be the first choice to go with. It help to create the yet unbuilt structure in a real scene. Thus, its viewers can check the building as if they are standing in front of it.
Marketing optimizer: This is the best tool to market your idea. It brings out the best side of your unbuilt building.
Facilitating project management: A realistic 3D work of the project is the best coordination for management. Any possible issues can get fixed during the construction phase before they happen.
What do You Need for Entering 3D Architectural Visualization Services?
Briefing is the best and easiest way. At AIMIR, we’ve prepared various brief forms at:
In this form, we collect your basic information as well as project information, such as project type, how many images, how long animation / virtual reality, 3D model, CAD plan, or sketches. One thing to bear in mind, the more materials and information you provide, the quicker we get started.
How long does 3D Architectural Visualization Take?
First, the answer depends on the project materials provided. Then, other factors such as the quantity / length of images / animations / VR to be created should be taken into consideration as well.
For instance, you have an office building that you want to have 3D images for. A complete 3D model is ready to use, and you’d like three renderings: an aerial view to show the structure and surroundings; a front view; and an interior view of the lobby. In addition, other supporting references such as the landscape plan or material board can accelerate the production process.
Anyway, for general reference:
3D Rendering: typically 3-5 days per 1-2 images.
3D Animation: typically 1-2 weeks per minute.
Virtual Reality: typically at least 4 weeks per project.
What is the Working Process?
AIMIR has a complete workflow for CGI works. The workflow has been fully tested during the last 17 years. For 3D rendering, 3D animation and virtual reality, we have streamlined and efficient workflows.
To start the work we need the project files such as 3D model, CAD plans, or hand sketches. On top of these, some supporting information can help a lot, such as the site photo, Google coordinates, landscape plan, floor plans, color and material boards, and so on.
When the production starts, generally we follow: 3D modeling – applying material and textures – lighting – rendering and post-work – final delivery. For 3D animation, there will be a storyboard / camera path confirmation before the standard working process.
For a more detailed working process please kindly check here.
Am I Able to See the Works Before Final Delivery?
The answer is absolutely yes! Actually, it is the inevitable part of the whole production. Because we do care about the way presenting your vision.
In general, the majority of projects are able to deliver you drafts to preview in the Modeling stage and Rendering stage. Besides, you will receive drafts throughout the entire process for any mark-ups and comments.
On the other hand, it is vital for you to provide your mark-ups or comments on the draft timely. This is because we can only proceed to next stage after receiving your mark-ups.
Are the Project Materials and Information Safe with You? What If the Project is Confidential?
Please rest assured that we will keep your data confidential if you hope so.
Our promise doesn’t come from nowhere. It is guaranteed by our strict Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). At AIMIR, we fully realize the nature of design industry. Thus, your date security is our top concern. We will not disclose any information unless you agree to do so.
Hope above can answer part of your questions. If you have more questions, please refer to our FAQ page here. Or you can simply talk to us about your concerns or projects on our home page or at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Architects are always concerned about how to make an informative and visually impressive presentation to win bids, while engaging with potential clients who are known as cautious investors. So, what can be eye-catching and convey all the critical information at the meantime? 3D animation would be a great choice for architects!
With the help of 3D animation, clients are able to receive a rich vein of information and details of the building design in a very short time. This doesn’t require an expert to interpret. Here are five ways in which 3D animation conduces to an informative and visually impressive presentation.
3D Animation Presents Features From Both Internal and External Viewpoints
A good presentation ought to showcase exterior and interior features of a building tunefully. 3D animation for architects can bear this important task nicely. For instance, in a video of a house tour, audience is allowed to first view the landscape around the house from an external perspective, and then enter the rooms one by one to check design details. As the camera moves in, it is accessible to see the garden with outdoor amenities like a pool or terrace through the windows.
3D Animation Demonstrates Transitions Between Spaces
Perspectives and seamless transitions between spaces of 3D animation make it possible to present one harmonious whole. Although it is integrated by isolated 3D scenes. Therefore, just like house visitors in reality, audiences are personally on the scene. Led through the corridors, visitors can stop in each room at any time to check details and switch to another one if they like. Sometimes, audiences may feel like they are watching a movie. Because some common methods in film production are also used in modeling scene switching, such as defocus transition. Everything is so smooth. By this means, architects are capable of showing each scene, and conveying the overall concept of the house at the same time.
3D Animation Displays Functions of Design Factors and HouseholdAppliances
A house is never simply a beautiful work of art. More importantly, it has a variety of functions to make people live comfortably. However, any pictures or interpretation are too pale and feeble to explain the functions to clients. In the circumstances, 3D house tour can help a lot. It shows how household appliances and furniture work in daily life. For example, an open hearth with a log fire roaring in it. Not limited to this, it also makes audiences put themselves in the role of the owner of the house. They feel as if they are just living right here, and then become attached to it. The deeper the emotions generated by the audience, the more likely the architect will win the bid.
3D Animation Provides a View of Multiple-building Projects Thoroughly
Composed of multiple independent buildings, multi-building projects are more difficult to achieve general harmony. These independent buildings should not only show their individual characteristics in such a whole. On top of this, they need to coordinate with each other and contribute to the formation of a harmonious architectural complex. How do architects manage to present it? 3D fly-through animation comes into play.
By various visual angles and perspectives, 3D animation exhibits the relationship between individual buildings in a project, including the relative position, the distance and so on. In addition to aerial views and panoramic views, the camera also does a good job of simulating human vision. What’s more, smooth connection and transition work well to present vivid views, instead of rigid pictures. It’s all for presentation of a state of coordination and harmony.
3D Animation Shows the Visual Changes at Any Time Under Different Occasions
It’s not enough just to showcase what the house looks like at a particular time. As we all know, visual effects of a building will be quite different in the wake of changes of seasons, weather, and daylight exposure and so on. A video capable of presenting so many variations would contain a great deal of information which customers are satisfied with.
3D animation demonstrates what the house looks like during the day or night, summer or winter, sunny or rainy days, as required. This facilitates an immersive experience for clients. They may feel like they are living in this future house while previewing how the house will change in their daily life, thus feeling the multiple charms of the house.

Tenderee and Assistant
Tenderee: Bureau of Public Works of Bao’an District, Shenzhen
We are delighted to share the making of MVRDV’s Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center project. This is a renovation project of an existing building in Shenzhen, China. MVRDV turned it into a space with a wide range of facilities for the welfare of women and children.
The previous Women & Children’s Center started construction in 1994 and finished in 2003. It went through a long time period, but the building was not functioning well during the past days. This time, MVRDV’s amazing design repurposed it and finally will serve the community in its new form.
As AIMIR’s precious partner, Lorenzo from MVRDV, brought us this exciting project in late 2021. Because of the tight deadline, both of us decided to focus on an aerial view first. Let’s start the journey of making the Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center!
The Purpose of the Project
Lorenzo needed a 3D rendering to demonstrate the future look of the building to their client: Shum Yip Group Limited. At first, the client only intended to rebuild the façade. However, they appointed MVRDV to repurpose the building’s inside and out.
Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center is located in the center of Futian District in Shenzhen. The old site was built twenty years ago, and it never functioned effectivelyas it should be. As a result, MVRDV’s “adaptive reuse” redesign gives this building a new life in the new age.
Site location & previous building to be renovated.
As mentioned before, we focused on one aerial view this time. In the view, Lorenzo would like to showcase:
multi-colored exterior frames;
This is a project with so many details. We hoped our 3D rendering would give life to this structure, as if it was built already. So, let’s get started with the camera angle.
To bring out the best accuracy of the surrounding environment, Lorenzo decided to use photo-composition for this project. He sent out a drone to take some high-res site photos, and this is the one he decided to use at last:
Thanks to MVRDV’s hard work, we’ve received a complete model, with parts of textures and colors included. In this stage, we fined-tuned the 3D model and adjusted its angle to fit in the selected site photo perfectly.
The fine-tuned model with right angle.
Lorenzo shared his vision about adding trees on the public plaza and the plinth rooftop. And we decided to add details of textures, colors and trees at the same time in next stage.
Materials, Textures and Landscaping
Once the model was in place, it was time to deal with materials, textures, and landscaping.
Thanks to Lorenzo, we’ve received many materials to help us understand this project. The floor plans explained the structure, which has an education courtyard, a children discovery hall, food and beverage area, shopping spaces, an auditorium, office spaces and a hotel on the top.
Floor plan for the plinth.
In terms of “adaptive use” in this structure, MVRDV redesigned the playground, and utilized rubber layers made by recycled tires. Recycled materials are not only used in rubber layers, but also in artificial lawns and site-casted resin finishing.
One of the features of the design is the multi-colored exterior frames. All façade cladding, window frames and balconies are in metal. And these frames increase the façade’s depth, creating extra shading to improve the comfort level inside. Besides, compared with the tower, the whole plinth is more colorful aiming to delight its visitors especially children.
Our 3D specialists summarized all of these information, and proceeded with texturing the structure with appropriate materials.
This is a highlighted part because of its unique design. MVRDV used stainless steel to form 3D logos of both “discovery hall (儿童探索馆)” and “Women & Children’s Center (妇儿大厦)” with the custom-designed Chinese characters. At the same time, the colors aligned with the exterior frames, creating consistency while communicating the building to the public.
Design of logos.
To bring the wow-effect with its viewers, our 3D artists put effort on the activities on both plinth rooftop and the public plaza. Thus, we’ve added various scenes with people interacting with each other and with the surroundings, such as wedding, kids playing, enjoying beverage, and roller skating.
Please enjoy the final image!
Construction has already begun, and AIMIR is so proud to be part of the project. We hope to stand on the rooftop to have a 360-degree panorama view of Shenzhen someday. We believe this structure will become one of the iconic buildings of Shenzhen.
